Kampung Saya (Malaysia Day Special) | Melaka, The Historic State
Many locals say that Melaka is where it all began. When we talk about the Malay sultanate, one of the most common stories would be about Parameswara. After all, it is his children that later on became the rulers of Perak, Johor and Pahang. In the 16th century, Melaka was a bustling trading centre known to people from all corners of the world. People came from far and near to trade gold, porcelain and spices. It was so prosperous that it fell into the hands of the Portuguese who coveted Melaka’s riches.
Today, although Melaka is no longer the major trading centre it used to be, remnants of the land’s rich and colourful history still attracts lots visitors everyday. With so many historical buildings, friendly locals and good food, who can resist?
